The health of your beloved four-legged friends is particularly important to us.
For this reason, we want to make sure that you are well informed about the most common illnesses that can occur in a boarding kennel.
The following information sheets will give you a comprehensive overview and tell you a lot about possible illnesses.

Please note that in the event of serious illness, your vet will always be able to provide the best possible care for your pet.
Should your pet fall ill during its stay with us, we work closely with the regional veterinary clinic to ensure fast and professional treatment.

Vaccination schedule

Please check your dog’s or cat’s vaccinations (combined vaccination and kennel cough vaccination) in good time before you go on vacation and be sure to bring the vaccination card or pet passport with you.

If your animal is not correctly vaccinated, a surcharge of 20% will apply.
This does not apply if your animal cannot be vaccinated for health reasons.
In such a case, however, we require a written certificate from your vet.

SYMPTOMS: WHAT ARE THE REASONS?

If your dog has kennel cough, you may notice the following signs:

  • Frequent and loud coughing: The cough often sounds like a barking cough and can be very contagious.
  • Coughing fits: Your dog may have sudden, recurring coughing fits, especially after physical exertion.
  • Mucous sputum: In some cases, mucous sputum may occur.
  • Changed behavior: Coughing can make your dog restless or irritable.

CAUSES: HOW DOES KENNEL COUGH MANIFEST ITSELF?

Kennel cough in dogs can be triggered by various causes:

  • Bacteria and viruses: Kennel cough is often the result of a combination of infections caused by different viruses and bacteria.
  • Close contact: Dogs that are in close contact with other dogs (for example in boarding kennels or dog parks) have a higher risk of getting kennel cough.
  • Stress and a weak immune system: A weakened immune system, due to stress or other illnesses, can increase susceptibility to kennel cough.

TREATMENT: WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If your dog shows signs of kennel cough, it is important to give your dog the rest it needs.
If possible, do not keep your dog on a collar during this time.

If the health condition worsens drastically, please consult your veterinarian.
Treatment will depend on the severity and may include the following:

  • Medication: The vet may prescribe cough suppressants and antibiotics to treat infections.
  • Isolation: Your dog should be isolated from other dogs to prevent the spread of the disease. Please avoid dog contact when out walking. A yellow cloth on the lead indicates to other dog owners that your dog should not come into contact with them.

HOW DOES EYE INFLAMMATION MANIFEST ITSELF?

If your pet has an eye infection, you may notice the following signs:

  • Red eyes: The eyes may be red and/or swollen.
  • Eye discharge: A cloudy, purulent or watery discharge may come from the eyes.
  • Frequent blinking or eye rubbing: Your pet may scratch its eyes more often or blink frequently.
  • Light sensitivity: Hypersensitivity to bright light may occur.
  • Changed behavior: If your pet is in pain or feels uncomfortable because of itchy eyes, behavioral abnormalities may also occur.

Eye inflammation in pets can be triggered by various causes:

  • Infections: Such reactions feel like a kind of cold for dogs and cats. Triggered by possible viruses, bacteria or fungi.
